I read about Kelly's Korner's Show Us Your Home series in this post on Nautical By Nature today and decided I would like to join up, too. So, first up is the living room.
Our living room is still a major work in progress. We haven't done a lot with it since we moved in. (Oh my gosh, that was TWO years ago now!) We are still trying to figure out how to arrange the furniture in the space. We need to find a rug. We need to figure out a better arrangement for lighting in this room. Two lamps just aren't enough, especially during the long, dark winter! So, welcome to our work in progress...
Coming into the living room from the hallway/stairs the first thing you see on the right is our fireplace. It is angled right in the corner of the room. I enjoy decorating the mantle for the holidays/seasons. I've just realized I need to remember to take a picture of my mantle decorating schemes. I can share a few with you:
Thanksgiving |
Christmas (2010) |
Easter/Spring (2011) |
And here is how the mantle looks today:
Moving along the front wall of the living room, we next come to the bay of windows with our couch:
I just hung those pictures on the wall last week. We have been taking pictures of various leaves and flowers out in the yard (since we moved in, two years ago) so that we would have something to put up on the wall. We bought these picture frames about a year ago, and had the pictures printed a couple of months later. Then I wasn't sure how to attach the photos to the mats, so everything sat for a while. After I figured that out (a few months later) I wasn't sure how to the hang the frames, so more time passed. I have four more square picture frames that I was originally planning to hang on this wall, too. (You can see one of them sitting on the mantle.) The plan is/was to place one above and one below each of the rectangular frames. There is plenty of space for this on the wall between the fireplace and the couch. I'm afraid the bottom picture on the left would be obscured by the Morris chair, though, so I haven't hung them yet.
Continuing around the room, next we see the archway to the office and the corner with the love seat and the only other lamp in the room.
Next comes the big, blank wall with the archway to the dining room. There are amazing leaded glass pocket doors in this archway:
We have eight more picture frames to hang here, once we decide on some more pictures to print. So, in another year or two it should look something like this (please excuse my poor photo-editing skills):
Finishing the tour of the room you get around to our game storage trunk and the entertainment center. Steve built the entertainment center back in college!
The opening between the entertainment center and the fireplace also contains a large leaded glass pocket door.
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our living room!
